Cistus ‘Sunset’ is an evergreen groundcover. It stays low growing to only 1 to 2 feet tall and to 6 to 8 feet wide. It has gray-green leaves that are slightly wavy on the edges and have a felt-like appearance. It blooms in spring and well into summer with 2 inch wide bright magenta flowers containing bright yellow stamens in the centers. Prefers full sun in well drained soil. It is an excellent drought tolerant groundcover especially for difficult areas and is hardy to about 20° F. It can tolerate seaside conditions, drought and it is said to be resistant to deer.
