‘Fan Tex’ is a cultivar of Fraxinus velutina. It’s commonly sold as Rio Grande Ash. It makes an excellent shade tree for hot summer regions. It matures at about 35 to 40 feet tall with a spreading rounded canopy. It is a heat tolerant and poor soil tolerant shade tree with yellow fall color. ‘Fan Tex’ is considered to be fast growing, which is important when cooling shade is needed!
