Moderate-growing deciduous tree with an upright growth-habit to 18-20’ tall x 12-15’ wide. One of the smallest-growing flowering plums, this popular variety forms a short trunk and low-growing head, featuring upright branches with unique, glossy blackish-purple foliage, the darkest colored foliage of any flowering plum. A profusion of lightly-fragrant, showy, single light-pink flowers appear in spring prior to the emergence of its attractive foliage. Small fruit are seen on occasion, but are considered more novel than edible. This heat-tolerant variety is well-suited as a small lawn, street, shade or patio tree, and is a popular choice for entryways or raised planters. Prefers regular watering in a well-drained soil, and a full sun exposure.
